Description
It occurs as colorless or white, platelike crystals or as a white crystalline powder. One gram is soluble in about 35 mL of water. It is slightly soluble in alcohol, in dilute mineral acids, and in alkali hydroxide solutions. It melts with decomposition at about 283°. The pH of a 1:100 aqueous solution is between 5.4 and 6.0.
Application
It is the main raw material of Aspartame, one of the essential amino acids in the human body. It is mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry for amino acid infusion and amino acid drugs. It can also be used as a nutritional supplement.
