It is slightly soluble in alcohol, in dilute mineral acids, and in alkali hydroxide solutions. It melts with decomposition at about 283°. The pH of a 1:100 aqueous solution is between 5.4 and 6.0. Application It is the main raw material of Aspartame, one of the essential amino acids in the human body.
