Silymarin is a flavonoid complex obtained by condensing dihydroflavonol and phenylpropanoid derivatives from the seeds of the plant Asteraceae. It is yellow to yellowish-brown amorphous powder. It is soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform, almost insoluble in water.
