Description
It occurs as colorless, silky needles or as a white, crystalline powder. One gram is soluble in about 230 mL of water. It is soluble in dilute mineral acids and in alkaline solutions. It is very slightly soluble in alcohol.

It is a non-essential amino acid, which is widely used in food, feed, pharmaceutical and chemical industry. L-tyrosine is a nutritional supplement used as raw material for amino acid infusion and compound preparation of amino acid, for the treatment of poliomyelitis, tuberculous encephalitis, hyperthyroidism and other diseases.
